How it all began.

When my family moved from Hawaii back to the mainland, our health insurance didn’t come with us. I was just trying to find short-term coverage — and instead got bombarded by high-pressure agents selling plans that excluded everything in my medical history. I couldn’t even get an MRI for a shoulder injury I’d had 22 years earlier.

That frustration sparked a fire. I started digging deep into how health insurance really works — and I realized good plans do exist, but only if you know how to find and interpret them. I learned to read the fine print. I got licensed. And what started as solving my own family’s problem turned into a career helping others avoid the same trap.
Today, I’m an independent health coverage advisor and benefits strategist, licensed in nearly every U.S. state. Along with my husband, Mark — who joined the business two years after I launched it — we’ve built contracts with most of the major insurance carriers and work with a wide range of clients.

I’m Mark — husband, father, and behind-the-scenes strategist. I have a background in Elementary Education and spent years as a stay-at-home dad (which still ranks as my favorite job). I’m also a licensed health coverage advisor, supporting McGarrity and our clients by managing the back office, reviewing plan details, and making sure the strategy behind every recommendation holds up.

As someone who’s Hard-of-Hearing, I leave most of the phone work to McGarrity — but I stay plugged in to every detail of our clients’ needs. My strengths lie in tech, logic, and a healthy obsession with efficiency. Whether it’s double-checking coverage options or designing smarter workflows, I make sure what we offer doesn’t just look good — it actually works.

I’m McGarrity (yep, that’s my first name). I’m a health coverage advisor, MBA, published author, and mom to two incredible kids. My journey into insurance started when my own coverage failed me during a cross-country move. I was tired of pushy agents and fine print — so I learned how to read the documents, asked tough questions, and became an advisor to help others avoid what my family went through.

Today, I work with individuals, families, and small businesses to find the right-fit coverage, backed by clear guidance and real options. I also speak to corporate audiences about the hidden costs of bad benefits, helping HR teams and executives reframe their benefits strategy without blowing the budget.

When I’m not working, I’m reading (always), helping my daughter run her dog treat business (Mercedes’ Pawsome Bitez), or planning our next travel adventure.
